Well, now listen here, if you’ve watched that “Happy Death Day 2U” movie and liked it, I reckon you might be lookin’ for some other films that got that same kind of feel—somethin’ fun but a little spooky too. Now, that “Happy Death Day 2U” isn’t your usual scare-fest, it’s more about time loops, some chuckles, and a dash of slasher mixed in, but not too much to make you scream. If you’re after more of that same, I can tell ya about a few films that got a similar vibe. You know, somethin’ that’ll make ya think but still keep you entertained, without makin’ your heart race too much.
1. “Groundhog Day” (1993)
Now, this one’s a classic. Bill Murray in that Groundhog Day movie? Well, he’s stuck relivin’ the same day over and over, just like the girl in “Happy Death Day.” But instead of runnin’ from a killer, ol’ Bill’s tryin’ to figure out how to stop makin’ the same mistakes. It’s funny, it’s heartwarming, and it’s got that loop thing that makes ya wonder how in the world you’d deal with the same day happenin’ again and again.
2. “Freaky” (2020)
Now, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ that’s got a bit of the horror and comedy mix, just like “Happy Death Day 2U,” you might want to check out “Freaky.” It’s got this young girl who ends up switchin’ bodies with a serial killer. I know, sounds odd, but it’s a wild ride, with laughs, some thrills, and a little blood to keep ya on your toes. It’s like “Happy Death Day” in the way it mixes the fun with some good ol’ slasher action, but in a whole different way!
3. “The Final Girls” (2015)
Oh, if you’re one of those folks who likes a good horror-comedy, you’ll love “The Final Girls.” It’s got a group of teens who get sucked into a ’80s slasher movie, and, let me tell ya, it’s full of funny moments mixed in with all that good ol’ slasher stuff. It’s just like how “Happy Death Day 2U” doesn’t take itself too seriously, but still gives you some good suspense and a few scares along the way.
4. “Edge of Tomorrow” (2014)
Now this one might be a bit more sci-fi, but it’s got the whole time loop thing going on just like in “Happy Death Day 2U.” Tom Cruise is stuck in a loop where he keeps relivin’ the same day, only this time, there’s aliens tryin’ to take over the world. It’s full of action, humor, and even some smart twists. If you liked how time kept rewinding in “Happy Death Day 2U,” you’ll get a kick out of this one too.
5. “Source Code” (2011)
Here’s another one where time loops come into play, but it’s a bit more serious. “Source Code” is about a man who keeps relivin’ a train bombing over and over, tryin’ to figure out who did it. It’s got that same mystery element, with a good amount of suspense, just like when Jessica Rothe’s character in “Happy Death Day 2U” tries to figure out what’s happenin’ each time she dies.
6. “The Map of Tiny Perfect Things” (2021)
If you’re lookin’ for a more heartwarming movie with that same time loop twist, “The Map of Tiny Perfect Things” might be just what you need. It’s about two teens stuck in a loop, but they’re not runnin’ from killers, nope. They’re just tryin’ to find all the little perfect moments that make life worth livin’. It’s sweet, fun, and light, just like some parts of “Happy Death Day 2U.”
7. “Looper” (2012)
Now, “Looper” ain’t exactly a time loop comedy, but it’s got a lot of the same time-bendin’ stuff goin’ on. It’s a little darker than “Happy Death Day 2U,” but if you like a good twist and some action, this one might tickle yer fancy. It’s all about a hitman who has to deal with his future self, and let me tell ya, it gets real messy real quick!
8. “Before I Fall” (2017)
Here’s another one where a girl keeps relivin’ the same day, only this time, it’s not about runnin’ from a killer. Instead, she’s tryin’ to figure out how she can fix things in her life before it’s too late. “Before I Fall” is emotional, and it’ll make ya think about your own life too. It’s got that same idea of relivin’ the same thing over and over, but with a lot more drama than a slasher.
9. “Happy Death Day” (2017)
Well, I can’t leave out the first movie in the “Happy Death Day” series, now can I? If you liked “Happy Death Day 2U,” then the first one’s right up your alley. It’s got the same time-loop theme, but this time, our main gal’s tryin’ to figure out who’s killin’ her. It’s a bit more of a straight-up slasher, but it still has plenty of humor and those twists that make ya go, “What in the world just happened?”
10. “Timecrimes” (2007)
And finally, if you want somethin’ a little more mind-bendin’, you might like “Timecrimes.” It’s about a man who accidentally messes with time and ends up causin’ all kinds of trouble. It’s a bit darker and more serious, but if you’re into time travel and all the mess it causes, it’s definitely worth a watch.
So, there you go! If you liked “Happy Death Day 2U,” these here films should give you that same mix of time loops, thrills, and maybe even a few laughs. None of ‘em are exactly the same, but they’ve all got somethin’ that’ll remind you of that fun and spooky feeling you get when you’re watchin’ that time-loopin’ madness. Hope you enjoy ‘em!
