Starting My NBA 2K25 Team Build Journey
So last night I fired up NBA 2K25 after work, thinking I’d breeze through Domination mode like last year. Boy was I wrong! Got absolutely stomped 65-42 in my first game against Celtics Historic. Saw Jaylen Brown drop 28 points on my sorry squad while my point guard kept tripping over his own feet. That’s when I knew I needed a new approach.

Roster Building Reality Check
First thing I did was scrap my entire starting lineup except Donovan Mitchell. Realized I’d wasted too much MT on flashy emerald cards that couldn’t defend. Went bargain hunting for these essentials:
- Picked up Brook Lopez for 900 MT – dude’s 7’0″ with 84 block rating
- Snagged Robert Covington for 1.2k – steals machine with decent 3pt
- Grabbed Derrick White off auctions for 800 MT – budget defensive beast
Biggest lesson? Height matters more than overall rating in Domination. Swapped my 6’3″ PG for 6’8″ Josh Giddey and suddenly wasn’t getting bullied in the paint anymore.
The Defense Breakthrough
Changed my controller settings after getting smoked by Curry twice:
- Set defense assist to 20 (default was way too high)
- Switched to smother + deny ball for opponents’ shooters
- Made off-ball defense my priority instead of chasing dribblers
Started holding teams under 50 points consistently by controlling my center to protect the rim. Forced the AI into taking stupid mid-range jumpers that always brick.
Offense Strategy That Actually Works
Quit trying fancy dribble moves that never worked for me. Now I run simple pick-and-rolls all day:

- Call Brook Lopez for high screen
- Drive baseline with Mitchell
- Either dunk or kick to corner if defense collapses
Sounds basic but I’m shooting 58% since switching to this. Also noticed fatigue matters – always sub out starters when the stamina bar hits yellow or they’ll miss open shots.
Final Team Setup That Crushes Domination
After 12 hours of tinkering, here’s what finally worked:
- Starters: Giddey, Mitchell, RoCo, Portis, Lopez
- Bench MVPs: Quickley, Bogdanovic, Claxton
- Playbook: Hawks 2018 freelance with Pelicans plays
Just three-starred the All-Time Lakers squad last night. Key was putting Claxton on AD and accepting LeBron will get his 30 – just locked down everyone else. Feels amazing when the grind pays off!
