So today I was messing around online trying to find some underrated NBA players for my fantasy league. Kept seeing the same big names everywhere – boring. Then I stumbled on this NBA player generator tool completely by accident while searching for deep bench stats.

First Impressions
Opened this super basic webpage with a huge “GENERATE” button right in the middle. Looked like something from the early 2000s honestly. Underneath were all these sliders and checkboxes – height range, position, minutes per game thresholds. Scrolled down and saw this beautiful checkbox labeled “EXCLUDE SUPERSTARS.” Ding ding ding! Hit that immediately.
Tweaking the Filters
Cranked the minutes slider down to like 10-20 MPG. Checked “undrafted” players just to see. Set stats to show guys averaging 5+ rebounds even with limited minutes. My buddy Dave kept yelling “show the point guards!” so I filtered for point guards too. Paused and just clicked GENERATE like 5 times fast.
The names popping up:
- Some dude named Jose Alvarado putting up sneaky steal numbers
- Kenrich Williams grabbing boards like crazy in OKC
- Jalen McDaniels with solid mid-range % on Hornets
Never heard of these guys beyond maybe seeing names scroll on the bottom ticker. Especially Alvarado – that little bulldog plays hard every second he’s on court. New Orleans got him for nothing!

Rabbit Hole Time
Started diving into each player’s advanced stats next. Right-clicked names to open 5 tabs at once like a maniac. Watched full quarter highlights from random regular season games – not just the fancy highlight reels. Saw how Kenrich Williams sets screens like a brick wall and always makes the extra pass. Stuff you miss when only watching superstars.
Generated names 20 more times while eating cold pizza at midnight. Filtered for international players under 25 with PER over 15. Found Day’Ron Sharpe in Brooklyn quietly developing as backup center. Guy just boxes out and hustles. Textbook example of hidden potential.
Reality Check
Obviously this thing ain’t perfect. Couple times it spit out borderline starters instead of true hidden gems. Had to go back and tighten stats filters to “under 10 PPG.” Also learned not to trust generated player comparisons – saying someone’s “like Draymond Green” just because he grabs steals sometimes is wild.
The real value? Makes you actually look at guys you’d normally skip in box scores. Found 4 legit rotation players that’ll be dirt cheap in fantasy drafts this year. Whole process took maybe 40 minutes. Way better than scrolling through endless YouTube “TOP 10 UNDERAPPRECIATED” videos where every player already has an endorsement deal.
