Okay so I gotta tell ya, Huddersfield Junior League sign-up for my lad nearly caught me out this year. Honestly, I’d been telling myself I had ages, right? Like every summer.
First, Realizing I Was Late (Again)
Saw a post in the local Facebook group last Tuesday – someone asking if registrations were still open. My heart sank. I swore it was later in August. Rummaged through last season’s kit bag and found the little flyer tucked away. Sure enough, Key Deadline: July 31st. It was already August 3rd! Panic mode.
Scrambling For Info
Straight onto Google: “Huddersfield Junior Football League registration 2025“. Found the league’s main page. Took ages because loads of old pages kept popping up. Needed the current dates:
- Foundation Phase (U7-U8): Open until August 20th
- Youth Phase (U9-U11): Open until August 10th
- Development Phase (U12-U16): Open until August 15th
Massive relief. My kid’s U10, so Youth Phase. Had 7 days. Cut it fine!
The Actual Sign-Up Process
Right, clicked the registration portal link. Standard form stuff first:
- Parent details
- Kid’s name, birthday, contact info
- Emergency contact (Granny)
- Medical stuff – asthma pump? Check.
Proof of address! That’s new. Needed to upload a PDF or image. Phone pics wouldn’t cut it – resolution too low. Had to drag out the scanner, took three tries to get it flat enough. Total faff.
Then the league-specific questions:
- Playing History (Played for the Warriors last year)
- Size Requests (Requested large shorts, kid’s growing like a weed)
PAYMENT! The big one. £85 for the season, online only. Key thing: Payment Deadline is the same as registration date. You submit the form, you gotta pay straight away or it doesn’t count. Card went through finally. Felt the wallet sigh.
Email Confirmation & Next Steps
Got an auto-email almost instantly confirming they got my form AND payment. Big worry gone. Said they’d send team allocation by August 25th. Also First Training Night: September 4th. Marked it in the calendar AND set a phone reminder. Not risking missing that!
Things I Almost Missed
- The photo upload requirement for the player card. Nearly skipped that box! Needed a proper headshot.
- The email specifically mentioning all sessions start at Marsden Rec, 6pm sharp. Last year’s pitch was different.
- The volunteer opt-in section. Tick the box if you can help. Tick. Might end up handing oranges.
Honestly? Glad it’s done. Every year, same panic. Every year, saved by those few extra days grace! Now just gotta wait to see who his coach is. Hope it’s not Dave again, his training was boring last season.
