Okay so this morning I decided to try adding a new league database into Football Manager 2023 because my mate told me about this sick Gibraltar league file floating around. Total mess at first but finally got it working after spilling coffee all over my keyboard. Here’s exactly how I brute-forced it step by step.

Finding the Database Files
First I hunted down that database file my friend mentioned. Grabbed the zip folder from some forum thread after scrolling past fifty “thx for sharing!!!” comments. Unzipped it right on my desktop – saw a bunch of .fmf files and a * someone clearly typed half-asleep. Ignored the text file like an idiot obviously.
Dumping Files into the Editor Folder
Fired up File Explorer and smashed this path into the address bar:
- Documents
- Sports Interactive
- Football Manager 2023
- editor data (had to create this folder because apparently I never used the editor before…)
Dragged all those .fmf files straight into the “editor data” folder. Didn’t rename anything – kept the files exactly as they came outta the zip.
Firing Up the Game
Launched FM23 and clicked “Start New Game.” On the setup screen where you pick leagues, spotted the “Database” drop-down menu at the top right – total game-changer. Clicked it and boom! My Gibraltar database showed up there named “GIBS_*” looking all official. Selected that bad boy instantly.
Making Extra Triple Sure
Panicked for a sec when Gibraltar didn’t pop in the league list automatically. Realized I still needed to check the Gibraltar league box under “Europe” leagues. Ticked it, added players from top clubs like they suggested in the readme I originally ignored (oops). Hit continue and watched the loading bar crawl while praying.

When the save finally loaded? Rock of Gibraltar achievement unlocked! Saw semi-pro teams like Europa Point FC with their 200-seater stadium. Immediately signed a 37-year-old striker from Lincoln Red Imps for my Sunderland save cause why not. Messy process but honestly? Worth the keyboard stickiness.
