Gotta Get That Roster Info
Alright, so I saw chatter online about the East Jackson High football team roster being up. Figured it’d be neat to share it, you know? Give folks a heads-up on who’s playing. Sounded simple enough. Famous last words, right?

First step, obviously, hit the high school website. Figured the athletics section would have it. Tapped away on my laptop, found the football page. Nothin’. Just old season recaps and a blurry photo of the stadium entrance. Useless. Annoying, but okay. Maybe they posted it somewhere else? Checked the “News” section, the principal’s blog… zilch. Total dead end.
Alright, plan B. Drove over to the school office. Middle of the afternoon, figured someone could point me in the right direction. Receptionist lady looks up, kinda tired. “Football roster?” she asks. I nod. She sighs. “Coach usually handles that stuff. Try the athletic department office down the hall.”
Walked down the echoing hall. Found the door, “Athletics Dept.” printed on frosted glass. Knocked. Nobody answered. Tried the handle – locked. Seriously? School day and no one’s around? Checked my watch. Early dismissal for some teacher thing. Figures. Bad timing on my part.
Pulling out my phone, I scrolled through my contacts. Remembered Dave, his kid plays JV baseball but sometimes knows stuff. Gave him a ring. “Yo Dave, you heard where the varsity football roster might be posted?” Dave pauses. “Uh… maybe the booster club Facebook group? Saw something about player bios popping up there last week.”
Right, the Facebook group. Hopped onto Facebook, which always feels like diving into a swamp. Searched for “East Jackson Football Boosters.” Found the group, requested to join. Sat there refreshing the screen for like twenty minutes, watching paint dry. Finally got approved. Scrolled down… and saw it! Pinned post right at the top: “MEET THE 2024 EAGLES!” with a link. Clicked it… password protected. You gotta be kidding me!

Okay, new plan. Texted the head coach. Had his number from that charity thing last year. Sent a polite message asking nicely if he could share the public roster link. Waited. One hour. Two hours. Radio silence. Probably neck-deep in practice or film. Started getting that sinking feeling.
Just as I was about to give up and write it off, my phone buzzes. It’s Janice, works part-time concessions at the games. She texts:
- “Roster? Think they got it up on that Hudl thing they use for highlights.”
HUDL! Forgot about that! Jumped on Hudl, searched East Jackson High football. Boom. Their team page. Clicked “Schedule & Roster.” And there it was. The whole thing. Finally!
Listed everything:

- Players, numbers, grade, position
- Coaches, positions, even years coaching there
- A couple headshots even loaded for some seniors
Saved it quick, before it could vanish into thin air. Why they gotta make finding basic info like finding buried treasure? Between website, office being closed, Facebook lockup, coach ignoring texts… felt like I ran a mini-marathon. Should’ve just started with Hudl. Live and learn. Anyway, roster secured. Job done. Mostly.
